Coasts Lesson 1 Flashcards
What is a system
Stores and processes linking together to form a working unit.
What are the different parts of a system?
Inputs, outputs, stores, flows
Drainage basin can be viewed as a system - what kind?
Drainage basin is an open system. There are inputs and outputs of energy and materials.
Isolated systems
Have no inputs or outputs of materials or energy. Only one example, the universe.
Closed systems
Have inputs and outputs of energy, but not materials. The hydrological cycle (planetary water cycle) is one example.
Open systems
Have inputs and outputs of energy and materials. The drainage basin is an example.
