What is boulder clay
Clay containing many large stones and boulders, formed by deposition from melting glaciers and ice sheets
What is granite
A very hard, granular, crystalline, igneous rock consisting mainly of quartz, mica and feldspar and often used as a building stone.
What is marble
A hard crystalline metamorphic form of limestone typically white with coloured mottling or streak, which may be polished and is used in sculpture and architecture
What is chalk
A white soft earthly limestone (calcium carbonate) formed from the skeletal remains of sea creature
What erodes faster hard or soft rock

A beach that extends out into the sea
What is longshore drift
This is how the wind and the sea work together to move material along a coastline an da beach
What is a groyne
Wooden walls which help prevent long shore drift to help the beach build up.
What is rock armour
Protects the wall from erosion, rock protecting the land
What is a sea wall
A wall or embankment erected to prevent the sea eroding an area of land
What is beach nourishment/replenishment
Adding/ replacing sand to build up the beach and replace longshore drift.
What is offshore breakwater/ reef
Causes the waves to break further away from the beach
What is revetments
Barricade of earth or and bags to protect the coast
