Coaching Flashcards
What is coaching
Coaching
“…partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” - International Coaching Federation
“…unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.” - Sir. John Whitmore
Why coaching v. training
Only 25% of material is retained after a one-time learning intervention without ongoing support (Learning without Doing or Being).
Coaching drives lasting behavior change better than traditional trainings and workshops. It provides personalized, ongoing accountability that empowers a learner to develop the mindsets to grow & change and to unlearn old ways of doing & practice new behaviors.
Why traditional L&D Fails
Insufficient personalization - instead of individual needs it’s one size fits all
Accountability
Most need ongoing support to stay on top of the difficult “doing”
Not enough practice
Time to consume but no space to practice what they learned
Lack of Feedback
Feedback loop to see if they are effectively doing the new behavior
No Self-Reflection
The how and why the behavior changed - without it unlikely to see sustained change
