What are the three types of colonies in the New World??
Royal, Proprietary, and Self- Governing
Royal Colonies
Under direct control of the king/queen.
Proprietary Colonies
Under the control of an individual or small group of people that got this land from the kings and queens. (a biz)
Self- Governing Colonies
Had really no rules, no governor picked by the King. (peeps run it).
New England Colonies
Founded for religious freedom, but still strict religious rules. They lived 2x longer than people from more Southern parts of the New World because of weather/ climate.
Pilgrims of Plymouth
First puritans and christian separatists. Landed in New England in 1620. Landed at Plymouth Rock
Puritans of Massachusetts Bay
Developed the New World and established Democracy. They brought Charters and were more prepared than Pilgrims.
Dissenter
People who disagreed with faith or beliefs
Middle Colonies
Greatest diversity of people and religion, Mostly a biz, farming, trade, and industry. They formed the best relationships with Native Americans.
The Bread Colonies
Founded for $$$, they prospered from good harbors and fertile land, they had a Democratic Government.
The Quakers
Religious dissenters who promoted religious tolerance and Equality for All (a lot of Europeans came here first).
Southern Colonies
Very warm with fertile soil and lots of natural resources. Fewer families because only young men living there at first, plantations, economics, cash crops and slavery. Not big on religion.
