Who are the Paleo Indians??
Hunters and Gatherers- hunt big animals/gathers plants for food (10,000 B.C.). Used Projectile Points. NOT FARMERS!!!!
What are Projectile Points??
sharp stones on the ends of sticks used for hunting.
Who are the Archaic Indians??
Stayed in same place for longer, Hunted small animals bc big ones went bye-bye, had better tools, started pottery and paintings; (8,000- 2,000 B.C.)
Who are the Woodland Indians??
Agriculture (dom of plants and animals), They farm, hunt, and gather, have a big population.
Who are the Mississippian Indians??
Last prehistoric era, villages/mounds were common, hieroglyphics.
What are mounds??
around 100 feet surrounded by palisades, Burial places, held celebrations.
What are the three major tribes in SC??
Cherokee, Catawba, and Yemassee
Where did the Cherokee live??
Blue Ridge and Upper Piedmont regions
Where did the Catawba live??
Piedmont
Where did the Yemassee live??
Coastal Zone Region
What houses did the three major Native American tribes built and live in??
Cherokee - Wattle and Daub
Catawba and Yemassee - Wigwams
Where would you mostly find Native American Villages??
Near water sources, or birch tree forests (Not all the times but some of it).
What was the main problem that cause war between Native Americans and Europeans??
Land Ownership. (NA’s didn’t believe in owning land so Europeans just came and took everything.)
What are the three sisters??
Corn, Squash, and Pole Beans
