CNS Neurotransmitters Flashcards
These three neurotransmitters are all chatecolamines, which are members or the —– class of neurotransmitters.
Norepinephrine
Epinephrine
Dopamine
Catecholamines are monoamines.
These three types of NTs are monoamines.
Catecholamines
Serotonin
Histamine
This class of NT is used in 2-5% of CNS synapses
Monoamines
This class of NT is used in 5-10% of CNS synapses, but is common in the PNS.
Acetylcholine
This class of NTs is the most common CNS NT.
Amino acids
Two I nhibitory amino acid NTs, found in 15-20% of CNS synapses.
GABA, also glycine but less common and mostly in spinal cord
Excitatory amino acid NT, found in 75-80% of CNS synapses.
Glutamate.
Most common NT, a member of the – class of NTs.
Glutamate, an amino acid NT.
Found mostly in CNS, inhibitory NT, member of amino acid class of NTs.
GABA
Amino acid class of NTs, but this NT is found mostly in the spinal cords and is —- (inhibitory or excitatory).
Glycine, inhibitory
