non invasive, distinguish bone, soft tissue, and fluids such as CSF or blood. Tumors, infarctions, hemorrhage, hydrocephalus and bone malformations can also be detected
MRI
Images are better than CT
Used to evaluate blood flow and abnormal blood vessels, such as arterial blockage, intracranial aneurysms and AV malformations.
Lumbar Puncture
Insertion into the subarachnoid space between the 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae
used to
obtain CSF pressure
Obtain CSF for analysis
Inject contrast medium or air for diagnostic study
inject anesthetics
inject drugs
reduce mild to mod increased ICP in certain conditions
EEG
Records the electrical activity of the cerebral hemispheres.
Cerebral angiography
Done to visualize the cerebral circulation to detect blockages in the arteries or veins in the brain, head, or neck
EMG Electromyography
Used to ID nerve and muscle disordersas well as spinal cord disease.
