What is the treatment for children?
- 1st line = methylphenidate (CD2)
- 2nd line = lisdexamphetamine (CD2)
- OR atomoxetine, guanfacine
What is the treatment for adults?
- 1st line = methylphenidate/lisdexamphetamine
- OR atomoxetine
What are the side effects of methylphenidate?
- appetite loss
- insomnia
- weight loss
- increased heart rate and BP
- tics and tourettes
- growth restriction in kids
What would you monitor if a pt was on mehtylphenidate?
- Pulse
- bp
- appetite
- weight
- height
- psychiatric symptoms
Which patient groups is methylphenidate contraindicated in?
CVD, hyperthyroidism (characterised by tachycardia), severe hypertension, uncontrolled bipolar disorder, severe depression
What are the symptoms of dexamphetamine/lisdexamphetamine overdose?
wakefulness, hyperactivity, paranoia, hallucinations, htn, exhaustion, hypethermia, coma
What are the side effects of atomoxetine?
- suicidal ideation (esp at the start of treatment and after dose change)
- hepatotoxicity
- qt prolongation
- constipation
- tachycardia
- increased bp
What do you monitor with atomoxetine?
Pulse, BP, Appetite, Weight and height, Psychiatric symptoms
