CNS Flashcards
Divergence vs. Convergence
Receiving signals from a bunch of neurons for summation vs. sending them to a bunch of neurons for amplification
Callostomy
Treat non-drug-responsive epilepsy with significant divergence which spreads across the hemisphere
Definition of EPSP and IPSP
If it brings the cell to a value above threshold, it is excitatory. If not, it is inhibitory.
Spatial vs. Temporal Summation
Lots of terminals activated at different sites to add up to threshold and AP according to length constant vs. one terminal activated in succession to reach before decay can take effect according to time constant
Postsynaptic Inhibition in Spinal Cord
Tendon tap reflex sends sensory signals that excite motoneuron for quadriceps and excite the inhibitory neuron for the hamstring motoneuron
Presynaptic Inhibition in Spinal Cord
Self induced movements cause self induced sensory input from stretch and shit that inhibits motoneuron, but descending commands cause an inhibitory interneuron to presynaptically inhibit this sensory one
3 Differences b/w Non-NMDA and NMDA Rs
Fast, open at RP, and only let in Na, K, and Ca vs. Long term, require depol, and also let in Ca
