CNS Flashcards
what do bacteria use to move to infect the nervous system
Lympatic system so either lymph or blood
which form of meningitis has a higher mortality rate
Strep pneumonia
who is the most frequent cause of menigitidis
Neisseria menigitids hence the name lol
what kind of H.infulenza is able to cause disease
ones which present a capsule often type B
what is one very unqiue feature to only leprosy
One mycoside (phenolic glycolipid I [PGL-1]), is synthesized in large amounts and found only in M leprae.
how long does lyprosy incubate for
2-7 years
what cells does leprosy attach to
leprosy attachs to the Schwanna cells which varrys from other disease of the CNS which infect cilliated or noncilliated cells and invade blood then move to CNS
what causes damage in leprosy
immune response
compare and contrast the 2 forms of leyprose
Tuberculoid-milagnate form with less of a immune repose which is characterized by macules on face and trucks, local anestiec where infetion has reached CNS, also non contagious due to low organiusm count
Lepromatous- flesh eating version, high organsium count in lesions seen on face, may reslut in loss of facel compoents due to cell death
how does Clostridium botulinum cause disease?
intoxication via production of endotoxin
what kind of toxin and paralysis is associated with clostridium botulinum
enzyme toxin, flaccid paralysis
what kind of toxin and paraysis is associated with clostridium tetani
A-B toxin and stiff paralysis
