  • Causes issues in oral and prepatory stage, due to poor mastication and poor stabilisation of mouth floor
  • causes decreased hyolaryngeal excursion during pharyngeal phase

  • inadequate bolus breakdown
  • impaired preparation of bolus formations (semi solids)
  • decreased UES opening resulting in potential for post swallow penetration/aspiration
