CN III: Oculomotor Flashcards
CN III Function (2)?
Supplies internal eye movement
AND
external muscles of the eyes
CN III fibers project IPS or CON?
IPS and CON
CN III source?
Cortex
CN III: Sensory or Motor?
Motor
CN III dysfunction results in poor visual field alignment as a result of weak muscle control
–>it is also known as “double vision”
Diplopia
CN III dysfunction results in damage to the nerve that supplies the levator muscle for opening the eyelid
–> it is also known as “sleepy or lazy eye”
Ptosis
CN III dysfunction when one eye muscle is weak, in this particular case the medial is weak
–> it is also known as “down and out position”
Strabismus
CN III dysfunction when the individual is unable to constrict pupils in response to light and remain in a dilated position
Visceral Motor Fiber Dysfunction
