What is CMM?
It is a framework used to analyse the approach followed by an organisation to develop a software product. It provides guidelines and strategies to enhance maturity of the processes followed to develop the product. Based on feedback and development practices followed by most successful organizations worldwide.
CMM level 1
Initial
Processes followed are adhoc and immature and not well defined.
Work is performed informally.
CMM level 2
Repeatable
Work is planned and tracked. Experience w earlier projects is used to manage new similar projects.
CMM level 3
Defined
Sw and management processes are well defined and documented.
CMM level 4
Managed
Work is quantitatively controlled.
Org sets quantitative quality goals
CMM level 5
Optimising
Work is based on continuous improvement using quantitative feedback. Tools explored to increase product quality and reduce defects.
