CMDS/ALE-47 Flashcards
ASE components
- Missile Warning Set (MWS), AN/AAR-47A(V)2 or AN/AAR-47 B(V)2
- Electronic Support Measures (ESM), AN/ALQ-210
- Infrared Countermeasures Set (IRCM), AN/ALQ-144C(V)5
- Countermeasures Dispensing System (CMDS), AN/ALE-47(V)
IOSC
Integrated Optical Sensor Converter. The B(V)2
additional capability to detect noise patterns in the UV clutter (tonal noise), enhanced probability of
timely missile detection (Pd), but it comes with a small increase in false alarm rate (FAR).
AAR-47 MWS
Passively detect attacking IR missiles and battlefield lasers (range finder, target designator, and beam rider missiles)
360 degree coverage for the aircraft with coverage divided into four 90-degree zones
centered at 45, 135, 225, and 315 degree relative headings
Missile Warning Aperture
HARLID
Phododiode Laser Warning Aperture
Dynamic Blanking Adjunct Detector
Missile Warning Aperture
Wide FOV detectors that sense UV radiation from rocket motor plume/other man made sources
Evaluates photon count streams for temporal patterns
Laser Warning
500-1600 nm region
HARLID - AOA info
Photodiode - Quadrant only, but can detect weak laser signals
Asterisk*
HFI
Hostile Fire Indication
Quadrant indication
Small arms/unguided munition
SSDP
Stores and self defense program
Contained in the SSDC
CP
Countermeasures Signal Processor
Blanking
To prevent false laser threat warnings from reflected laser energy. Default for laser blanking is OFF, it must be enabled on the MTS main menu to function
UV blanking function shutters the IOSC to
protect it from damage by high levels of UV energy.
System Operation
Under normal operating conditions, the SSDP processor in the MC maintains
1553 communication with the MWS. In this state, all threats detected by the MWS are passed to the SSDP, and
are displayed in the ASE display, and also on the horizontal situation indicator (HSI) on the flight display (FD).
ALQ-210
replicates every HTW emitter report to the weapons 1553B bus
“RWR” (radar warning receiver)
ALQ-144
upper/lower - The transmitter
generates infrared light, modulates it, and then passes it through the covert window in the form of invisible
IR energy to disrupt the thermal imaging of missile threats, provides omni-directional support
Jam Select 1-9
ALQ-144 System Turning On
60 second warm up
Lower transmitter disabled via WOW switch
IRCM alerts
The four monitored functions are high frequency and low frequency modulator speeds, source emission, and high temperature.
If an IRCM failure alert
is observed, the system should be powered down immediately by turning the ON/OFF switch on the OCU to OFF. After the 60 second cool down period is completed the power distribution circuits shut down. The IRCM jammer
system is turned off and the UPPER/LOWER IRCM INOP
alerts are removed.
