CloudySwelling And Hydropic Degeneration Flashcards
Cloudy swelling? (2 points)
1-Mildest, commonest and reversible cell injury
2-characterized by cellular
swelling and cytoplasmic granularity.
Organs affected by cloudy swelling
Parenchymatous organs as ((heart , kidney, liver))
Gross picture: The affected organs
SERP
1-softer , enlarged, rounded borders ,pale
2- cut surface bulge outwards with tense capsule
The pathogenesis
injurious agent such as hypoxia__ Mitochondrial damage__ loss of
ATP formation__ Failure of the active cell membrane transport__ Na enters the cell ___while Potassium out of the cell.___ Excessive intracellular sodium is followed
by accumulation of water inside the cell.
Microscopic picture (3 points)
1-The cells are swollen by entry of water
2-granular cytoplasm (due to damaged mitochondria).
3-The nucleus is normal.
The fate (2 options)
1-It is reversible process after removal of the injurious agent.
OR
2-it may proceeds
to hydropic degeneration. NiXo
What is the difference between cloudy swelling and Hydrobic degeneration?
Both are reversible cell injury, but hydropic degeneration has extra amount of fluid inside the cell
How can the fluid accumulated inside the cell in hydrobic degeneration?
1-small multiple vacuoles
2-Single large vacuole replacing the site place and displacing normal nucleus
Definition of hydropic de generation
The last 2 cards
Example of hydropic degeneration
1-epidermis in burns
2-renal tubules in diarrhea
3- liver cell in viral hepatitis
4- pancreatic islets of langerhans in diabetes mellitus
