Name three characteristics that can be hereditary
Physical build, skin color, hair texture and color, shape and size of ears and feet, blood rumor and different medical conditions.
What is heredity?
The passing of characteristics.
Explain the relationships of chromosomes and genes
Each chromosome has thousands of genes (the units that determine the inherited characteristics. A person receives two copies of a gene.
Dominant Gene
Controls the way characteristics are expressed.
Recessive Gene
The weaker gene.
What determines the sex of the baby?
The sex chromosomes. Mother has an X father either had an X or Y. XX is girl and XY is boy.
How do Identical Twins occur?
The mass of cells split after fertilization, then each clump begins to divide and grow into a separate embryo.
How do Fraternal Twins occur?
Two eggs are released at the same time and each is fertilized, they grow side by side in the uterus.
What is Infertility and name two different causes
The inability to become pregnant. A woman’s ovaries aren’t releasing an egg each month or medical problems.
Adoption
Couple legally takes all responsibilities and rights for raiding a child already born.
Artificial insemenation
Sperm is injected into a women.
In vitro fertilization
An egg from the woman is removed and fertilized with sperm from the man.
Ovum transfer
An egg taken from a female donor and I’m vitro fertilization.
Surrogate Mother
A woman who becomes pregnant for another couple.
