Clinical Trials of Vaccines and Drugs Flashcards
Clinical trials are carried out to establish the
safety and effectiveness of drugs/vaccines before being licensed.
Clinical trials must be
Randomised, Double-blind and Placebo-controlled
A randomised trials helps to
reduce bias (because subjects are divided in a randomised way)
A double-blind trial prevents bias interpretation of results because
neither the subject nor the researcher knows which group they are in
A placebo-controlled trial allows valid comparisons of results because
one group receive the vaccine/drug while the second group receive a placebo
Clinical trials must have suitable group sizes to help
reduce experimental error and compare statistical differences
