What is the hallmark feature of nephropathy in T2DM patients?
Albumin in the urine (albuminuria)
What are the 3 different types of neuropathy?
Sensory –> Touch/pain/temperature
Autonomic –> Nerves that carry information to organs and glands
Motor –> Nerves which control movement
What are some of the symptoms of hypoglycaemia?
Shaky
Sweating
Hunger
Tiredness
Blurred vision
Lack of concentration/headaches
Why might hyperglycaemia happen?
Missed doses of medication
Stress
Very carbohydrate rich meal
Infection
Over-treating a hypo
How does Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) occur?
Occurs when somebody is incredibly hyperglycaemic
When a severe lack of insulin means that glucose can’t be used for for energy…..so fats is broken down instead
Ketones are byproducts of fat metabolism, which are poisionous
