Insidious onset with dry progressive cough
Affects age 50-70
What diagnostic features are present in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis?
Lower lobe predominance of interlobular septal thickening and subpleural fibrosis
Honeycombing and ground glass hepatocytes
Who is affected by sarcoidosis usually?
Patients younger than 50 years old
What are the symptoms to sarcoidosis?
Fever, erythema nodosum, polyarthritis, hilar adenopathy
What does a CXR show in sarcoidosis?
Lymphadenopathy with or without eggshell calcification
What organs are involved in sarcoidosis?
Any organ
What electrolyte abnormality is associated with sarcoidosis?
Hypercalcemia
What is first line therapy for sarcoidosis?
Corticosteroids
What test is a marker of disease activity for sarcoidosis?
Serum ACE
How does a lymphangioleiomyomatosis patient present clinically?
Recurrent pneumothoraces, chylous pleural effusion, diffuse infiltrates with hypoxemia, airflow obstruction
who is affected by lymphangioleiomyomatosis?
Women of child bearing age
What causes hypersensitivity pneumonitis?
Allergic reaction
Mold, grain dust, pets, mycobacterial antigens
How do you treat hypersensitivity pneumonitis?
Bronchodilators
Corticosteroids
How does asbestosis present?
Dry cough, dyspnea, basilar rales, decreased diffusing capacity, hypoxemia
What is silicosis?
Acute or chronic exposure to silica dust
