  • At the beginning of the work day
  • When hands come into contact with patients bodily fluids – excretions, secretions, blood and saliva
  • After being in contact with contaminated instruments
  • After eating
  • After using the washroom
  • After personal functions like blowing your nose

Donn & Doff PPE for Non-Aerosol Procedures

A

Donn:
1. Perform hand hygiene - sanitizer
2. place mask
3. place glasses
4. put on gloves

Doff:
1. remove gloves
2. hand hygiene - sanitizer
3. remove glasses
4. remove mask
5. hand hygiene

Eye glasses should be disinfected and cleaned with soap and water.

Donn & Doff PPE for Aerosol Procedures

A

Donn:
1. Perform hand hygiene
2. Place Gown
3. Place Mask
4. place face shield
5. place cap
6. perform hand hygiene
7. place gloves - put over gown

Doff:
1. remove gloves
2. perform hand hygiene
3. remove gown - turn inside out and roll up
4. perform hand hygiene
5. remove cap
6. remove face shield
7. remove mask
8. Hand hygiene

Eye glasses should be disinfected and cleaned with soap and water.

Perform Hand Hygiene with Soap and Water

A
  1. Ensure all rings and watches are removed. Roll up long sleeves. Wet hands with warm water.
  2. Apply soap into hands
    Scrub hands, nails for 15 - 30 seconds (double the time if forearms are included)
  3. Rinse well
  4. Use paper towels to pat dry hands, then forearms with paper towels
  5. Use the same paper towels to turn off sink faucets
    Note: (Inside of elbow is considered acceptable on lever style tap)
  6. Discard paper towel into the garbage without cross-contaminating your hands (A foot may be used to
    open garage door)

Perform Hand Hygiene with Alcohol Hand Rub

A
  1. Ensure all rings and watches are removed. Roll up long sleeves.
  2. Apply a palmful of product in a cupped hand, covering all surfaces
  3. Rub hands palm to palm with interlacing areas between fingers and vice versa
  4. Continue rubbing product over hands until all surfaces are dry (Procedure approx. length 15-30 sec)
  5. Do not use paper towels to pat dry hands
