what does WIPER stand for
WIPER
* Wash hands
* Introduce yourself and confirm the patient’s identity
* Position patient - explain what you will do and gain consent
* Expose as appropriate for the examination
Reposition the patient
when looking for skeletal abnormalities of elbow, what in particular are u looking for
* Skeletal abnormalities - such as varus/valgus deformity
* Cubitus varus - reversed angle - tibia turned inward in relation to femur, resulting in bowlegged appearance
Cubitus valgus - increased angle - tibia turned outward
Carrying angle - neutral/rest position at elbow joint
* Angle created between body and palm and forearm when standing straight with arms by each side with palms facing forward
* Male typical carrying angle 5-15o
Female typical carrying angle 10-25o
what is cubital tunnel syndrome?
most common symptom of cubital tunnel syndrome is numbness, tingling, and pain in the hand and/or ring and little finger, especially when the elbow is bent.
Cubital tunnel syndrome happens when the ulnar nerve, which passes through the cubital tunnel (a tunnel of muscle, ligament, and bone) on the inside of the elbow, is injured and becomes inflamed, swollen, and irritated.
what is crepitus
(this is common and nothing to worry about but shld be made as clinical note)
Crepitus is a sensation or noise when you move a joint. You may experience it as clicking, cracking, creaking, crunching, grating or popping. The noise could be muffled or heard by others.
