Clinical Cohort Studies Flashcards
1
Q
When does the ‘clinical phase’ of a disease begin?
A
begins at signs and symptoms of the disease
2
Q
What are the three components of a clinical cohort study?
A
- Defined group of patients
- At a defined point in the natural history of the disease
- Followed up to assess defined endpoints
3
Q
What does ‘ censored mean’ ?
A
- Censored means we know that the patient survived their melanoma at least this long- dropped out of the study
- We don’t know how much longer they would survive because we don’t have enough follow-up (2), they were lost to follow-up (3) or died of something else (4)
4
Q
what is the difference between prevalence and incidence ?
A
prevalence = snapshot in time (ex. 3/100 people died)
incidence = rate of things occuring (1 person died every year)
5
Q

A
all cohort studies measure risk factors
