Mechanism of Action
A
inhibit 50S bacterial ribosomal protein symthesis, because its actively transported into macrophages, it can penetrate some abscesses; bacteriostatic or bactericidal depending on organism

Antibacterial Spectrum
A
Excellent anaerobic and gram +
almost no gram -
alternative to pcn and cephalosporins when gram + is needed
skin and soft tissue infections (cellulitis) with pcn allergy
Mild aspiration pneumonias
Topical for acne
CA-MRSA

A
Allergic reactions (rare)
GI Intolerance
Clostridium difficile diarrhea
Avoid inj in neonates
