Climatology Flashcards
What does evidence suggest about past climates of some continents?
The climates were similar, despite the continents being thousands of miles apart now.
What do past climates of some continents suggest
That the continents were located together and in a different place on Earth to where they are now
Give an example of similar glacial deposits
There are similar glacial deposits found in Antarctica, Africa, South America, India and Australia
How do similar glacial deposits support the theory of plate tectonics?
By fitting the areas together you can match up the distribution of the deposits which suggest that they were joined together millions of years ago and located close to the South Pole.
Give an example of large coal deposits originally formed in tropical conditions?
Large coal deposits are found in North America and parts of Europe
How do coal deposits support the theory of plate tectonics?
It suggests these regions were once closer to the equator than they are now - they’ve drifted over time
