Climate Zones Flashcards
Altitude
Generally temperature decreases where there is an increase in height above sea level and upland areas tend to be wetter aswell, due to relief rainfall
Latitude
Generally the overall temperature decreases and temperature range increases as you go further from the equator because the Suns angle is lower nearer the poles
Continentality
Places on or near the coast have a smaller temperature range than those inland. This is because land heats up and cools down more quickly than the sea.
Prevailing wind
If these are warm ( blown from a hit area) they’ll raise the temperature. If they come from colder areas they’ll lower it. If they come from the sea or a wet area they’ll bring rain. If they’re offshore or blew bet a dry area, they’ll be dry.
Precipitation
Rainfall/snow/sleet/hail, ( when water in the atmosphere cools )
The three types of rainfall
Relief, conventional and frontal
Which part of the world are mostly MEDCs
Northern hemisphere
What’s an ecosystem?
An ecosystem includes all living and non living parts in an area
What’s a producer
A producer is an organism that uses sunlight energy to produce food
What’s a consumer?
A consumer is an organism that gets its energy by eating other organisms
What’s a decomposer?
A decomposer is an organism that gets its energy by breaking down dead material
What are the layers of a rainforest?
Emergents. Top layer
Canopy
Under canopy
Shrub layer. Bottom layer
