Climate change in the atmosphere Flashcards
How does the earth’s atmosphere work?
It act’s like a blanket around the earth, trapping heat in and letting small amounts out.
Who is Svante Arrhenius and what did he say about the earth’s atmosphere?
He is a chemist, and he suggested that carbon dioxide act’s like the glass in a green house, and it does not let heat out.
What would happen if the earth had no atmosphere?
the temperature would be much, colder, as the surface would not retain any of the energy.
What would the earth’s average surface temperature if we had no atmosphere?
during the day, it would be -18 degree’s and during the night it would be -160 degree’s. this would make it an inhospitable place to live in.
What is the earth’s atmosphere made out of?
it is made out of layer of gases that are held together by the earth’s gravitational pull. without it, we would be burned by the intense heat of the sun during the day and frozen by the low temperatures at night.
What are the gases in the earth’s atmosphere?
80 to 90% of the earth’s greenhouse gases are water vapour, a strong green house gas. the rest is made up out of carbon dioxide, methane and a few other minor gases.
What are bio-fuels?
ethanol can be used to fuel vehicles and for heating. it can be created and gathered by fermenting plant material and waste.
How is the creation and manufacturing of biofuels carbon neutral?
Plants remove CO2 from the atmosphere and it is released agin when the the ethanol is combusted in the form of heat.
How does climate change affect us?
It causes sea’s to rise because of glacial melting and water expanding. this also causes sea ice and tundra to melt, destroying many habitat’s of aniamls.
