Climate Change Flashcards
What is evidence of climate change ?
Ice cores, tree rings and historical resources.
What is the role of human enchanced greenhouse affect ?
Digging up fossil fuels to burn, deforestation, emittions of large amount of carbon and the layer of greenhouse gases increasing.
What is the role of the natural carbon cycle ?
After animals die or poo carbon enters the soil/atmosphere then the carbon if turned into coal and gases. Some carbon is returned to the atmosphere for ocean animals, animals and plants which take in the carbon.
Who is to blame for climate change ?
Countries with bigger population, places that burnes loads of fossil fuels and more polluted countries.
What are some consequences for the UK in climate change ?
Coastal area’s flooded, heat related deaths increase, economy lack of supplies.
What are some consequences for the Maldives in climate change ?
Extinct country because of sea levels rising, people moving homes, economy and deaths.
What is carbon footprint ?
The amount of carbon given of by cities, transport, housing and energy waste.
What is ecological footprint ?
Impacts on people/community due to the environment.
How can homes be more sustainable ?
All buildings having 300mm walls, all roofs having plants to collect rain water and transport being nearby.
What are the costs and benifits of renewable energy sources ?
No carbon is being made, energy can be infinite without a problem and could be easy to install.
What are some disadvantage of renewable sources ?
Could affect local people, cost can also be to high, works well depending on weather and the build can be exspensive.
Examples of renewable energy sources ?
Tidal energy, wind energy, solar energy and hydroelectric energy.
Why did Swansea bay tidal lagoon shut down by government ?
Tidal energy was to new and would cost to much.
Why was the Swansea bay idea good ?
It was renewable energy, reliable no matter the conditions, very efficient and looked very good.
