Climate change Flashcards
what are the natural causes for climate change
orbital
solar output
volcanic activity
what are the human causes for climate change
fossil fuels burning
agriculture
deforestation
how does each natural cause contribute to cc
solar output - when a sunspot output is maximum the sun will give off heat
Volcanic activity- Sulphur dioxide from the volcanic ash causes a reflection of the sun’s radiation
Orbital- axial tilt
How does each human cause contribute to cc
burning fossil fuels gives out greenhouse gases
agriculture produces huge amounts of greenhouse gas methane from animals
deforestation means less trees to absorb C0z from air + cutting down bark releases greenhouse gases
what are the effects of CC on people
Heatwaves- more heat related deaths however less cold related deaths
Rise in risk of Maleria as regions remain hot and humid for longer
Ski resorts may close as there’s lack of snow
sea level rise will affect countries dependent on tourism e.g Maldives
what are the environmental effects of climate change
rising sea levels
species at risk of becoming extint
more extreme weather
what are some mitigation techniques (reducing effects of CC)
switching burning fossil fuels to renewable energy like solar and wind to release less emissions
Carbon capture- Absorb C02, goes down 2Km into ground (becomes rock over time)
International agreements- when world leaders meet and agree to lower emissions
Plant trees- absorbs more C02 from atmosphere
what are some adaptation techniques
Agricultural changes- farmers changing what crops they grow and where they grow them
Water supplly- need to increase water supply for drier areas by recycling rain water
adjusting to rising sea levels
Physical barriers such as seas wall and barriers
