Climate Change Flashcards
A whole mass of air surrounding the earth
- Greenhouse gasses: Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide
- Oxygen and nitrogen
Atmosphere
Absorb wavelengths and contribute to global warming. Gases in the earth’s atmosphere trap heat.
Greenhouse Gas
A type of wave that transfers energy which includes radio waves, microwave, infrared waves, visible light, UV light, X-rays, and gamma rays
Electromagnetic(EM) Radiation
Light that human can see with their eyes
Visible light
Light that we can’t see since the wavelength is too long
Infrared(IR) Radiation
Measure how reflective something is.
Ex: The albedo of an arctic glacier is 0.9. 200 J of light energy is incident on the glacier. Calculate the amount of energy absorbed and reflected by the glacier.
200 x 0.9 = 180
180 will be reflected and 20 will be absorbed
