Q

Global Warming

A

A gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increase level of CO2, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other pollutants as a result of natural influence or hum actives

Q

Milankovitch Theory

A

Changes in the earths orbit around the sun and changes in the tilt and wobble of the earths axis can lead to cooling or warming of the earths climate change because they change the amount of energy our planet receives from the sun

Q

Albedo

A

The reflectiveness of a surface. Lower the albedo the more radiations from the sun the gets absorbed by planet increasing temperature. Higher Albedo means the sun is more reflective , therefore more reductions is returned back to space, decreasing temperature

Q

What is Enhanced Greenhouse Effect

A

Human actives such as burning fossil fuels, agriculture and land cleaning increase amount of greenhouse gases being released into atmosphere. Causing extra heat to be trapped making temperature rise

Q

What is Kyoto Protocol

A

An agreement made in1997 and started in 2005 by the EU + 41 countries. Target was to reduced the 6 GHG emissions. Germany decreased by 8% while Australia increased by 8% due to high reliance on gases

Q

La Niña

A

-Warm water is pushed west against east coast of Australia
-Colder water on west cost of South America
-Stronger trade winds and walker circulation
-More evaporation and precipitation
-Increase chance of flood risk and trivial cyclones forming

17
Q

Netural Phase

A

-Trade winds blow for rest to west in tropical Pacific region
-Warm waters pushed west
-Less extreme weather
-Droughts + floods still possible

18
Q

El Niño

A

-Warm water pushed towards west coast of South America
-Walker circulation breaks down
-Colder ocean temps on east coast of Australia
-Less evaporation and precipitation
-Drought risk in northern and eastern Aus
-More heatwaves and fewer tropical cyclones

19
Q

Social Impacts on Climate Change

A

How we live, Where we live and what we can do, Air quality, Infectious diseases (dengue fever)

20
Q

Economic Impacts on Climate Change

A

Worldwide impact of CC is more than $1.2 trillion year and reduced global GDP by 1.6% in 2014. Sectors affected: Agriculture, energy, fishing, tourism and water

21

Environmental Impacts on Climate Change

A

Heat, Fire, Drought, Se level rising, Coral reef bleaching, Biodiversity
