Climate change Flashcards

1
Q

When did COP26 happen and what were the outcomes of this meeting?

A

COP 26 happened in 1978 and it was decided to stop producing ODS, which allowed the ozone layer to heal a bit. It is called the Montreal protocol and was a global agreement.

Q

What are CFCs and what does it stand for?

A

It is an abbreviation of the word chlorofluorocarbon. CFCs are compounds that are broken up when hit by UV light, which makes them release chloride, which destroys ozone.

Q

Chemical symbol for oxygen and ozone and how they merge together.

A

Oxygen is O(small 2 at the bottom)
Ozone is O(small 3 at the bottom)
With UV light, 2 Ozone make 3 oxygen and using the energy again, 3 oxygen makes 2 Ozone, wasting UV light energy.

Q

Troposphere

A

0-10 km over the Earth’s surface. Contains humans and 99percent of water and weather. Temperature ranges from -50 to 50 degrees celcius usually.

Oxygen

A

21% of it in the air 0(small 2)

17
Q

Carbon dioxide

A

0.04% of it in the air CO(small 2)

18
Q

Nitrogen

A

Makes up 78% of air. N(small 2). Relatively unreactive.

19
Q

Hydrogen

A

Not in the air. H(small 2) Reacts with other substances when they burn.
