Client-Server and Peer-to-Peer Networks Flashcards
Client-Server Networks
Managed by a server Devices that connect to it are clients Files are stored centrally on the server Clients send requests to server e.g. websites hosted on web servers
Pros of Client - Server
Easier to keep track of files
Easier to perform back-ups
Cons of Client - Server
Expensive to set up
If server goes down all clients lose access to their work
Peer - to - Peer Networks
All devices are equal -> connect directly to each other
Store files on individual devices and share with others
used at home to share files or to connect to a printer
Pros of Peer-to-Peer
Easy to maintain -> no professional hardware
No dependence on the Server -. if one device fails the whole network isn’t lost
Cons of Peer-to-Peer
Backups more complicated -> no centralised management
Copying files creates duplicate files -> easy to lose track of where everything is stored
Cons of Peer-to-Peer
Backups are more complicated -> no centralised management
Copying files creates duplicate files -> easy to lose track of where everything is stored
