Client Factors Flashcards
How does client’s gender affect decision-making in MR?
E.g assume some social situation benefit client
assume male client benefit from joining therapists’ baseball league because men “relate” through sports
How may client’s culture lead to boundary crossing
Misassumptions or lack of knowledge
E.g taking off coat = police (Viennese) vs intrusive (USA)
How does the client’s psychosocial strengths and vulnerability challenge a potential nonsexual MR?
Strengths: depth of social network
Vulnerabilities: dissociative, personality, psychotic, delusional disorders = inability to understand/negotiate boundaries
How does client’s history of prior boundary violations increase likelihood of MR?
E.g clients with history of child sexual abuse, domestic violence, inappropriate boundary crossings with other professionals (teachers/clergy/prior therapists)
- These clients may be more vulnerable (need to ensure safe r-ship)
- Confusion about roles + boundaries
