Missing deadlines that you should have been aware of is one way to expose yourself accusation of malpractice
Appointment/Court Calendar (What is it/new clients/location/what to list for court appearances)
Confirms all appointments an attorney may have on a given day, as well as court appearances, be sure to consult frequently
If appointment is w/ new client, it should be noted in the calendar
If appointment is out of office, include location
If court appearance list: court, case #, specific court contact information
Reminder/Project Calendar
All law offices have some system for keeping track of ongoing dates/deadlines for all of its cases
Different events/deadlines/matter will be marked differently depending on if they’re completed, require attention, etc.
Misc/Difficult Calendaring
Some stuff that is difficult to calendar will nonetheless need to be calendared
Trial Calendar (How often to update/when to include cut-offs fates
Trial calendar should be completed/updated weekly if firm does family law, criminal/civil law/litigation
Include cut-off dates for: posting jury fees; exchange of expert/witness testimony; settlement conferences; trial dates
General calendaring Tips (Completion of entries/coding/cancellations and reschedules/info to include in notation)
Make entries complete–others mayhave to refer to your notations
Color code or categorize entries
Clearly indicate cancellation and reschedule/dates
Include addresses and phone numbers on notation
