Cleft Palate-Craniofacial anamolies; Embryological developement Flashcards
Embryo
0-9 weeks
Fetus
9 weeks-birth
Neonate
birth-1 month
Infant
1 month-2 years
Process of egg fertilization
Meiosis—gamete—mitosis—
Zygote
sperm and egg, initial one cell organism
Segmentation
cell dividing and creating daughter cells (cleavage), meiosis
Blastomere
Zygote after the first cell division takes place
Morula
3 days post-fertilization to roughly 6 days
Blastocyst
6 days
Differentiation between 6-8 days, Tropoblast forms, outer layer contains inner cell mass and attaches to uterine wall- becomes cord and placenta
Trophoblast is when things can go wrong, problems with differentiation
Gastrulation
9-12 days- inner cell mass turns inside out to create a hollow core
Embryonic disk
12 days- cell differentiation and gastrulation create 3 layers of cells, all become part of body (organs are usually combinations)
Ectoderm- outer layer: teeth, nervous system
Mezoderm- middle layer: connective tissues, bone, cartilage, muscle, blood
Endoderm- inner layer: lining of tracts, interior with no air contact
Syndrome
a constellation of symptoms that all have the same root cause
Sequence
Dominos, no single cause. (Pierre Robins)
Dysmorphology
Individual does not look symmetrical
