What is a Cleft Palate
A
> Gap or hole in the roof of the mouth
- Two sides of the palate do not fuse properly
- Can be in hard or soft palate

> Milk bubbling from nose while nursing
- Failure thrive/fading puppy syndrome
- Aspiration pneumonia

A
Physical exam

What is the treatment of cleft palate
A
> Surgery
- Antibiotics for aspiration pneumonia

What is the prognosis of Cleft Palate
A
Depends on complexity of the defect
- Usually guarded to poor due to surgical site breakdown
