1-knock on the door, introduce yourself, explain to the patient what your going to be doing, close the curtain, wash your hands, identify the patient, and collect your supplies.

Basin, barrier, towel, privacy blanket, under pad, soap, gloves, 4 wash clothes

Steps for doing the skill

1-fill the basin with water
2-put the privacy blanket over the patient
3-put your gloves on
4-roll the under pad and place it on the lateral side of the patient
5- tell the patient to go on their side and put the pad under them
6- roll up their gown and the bed sheet
7- put a towel in between their thighs
8- grab your first wash cloth and clean the catheter times going away from the body
9- grab the other wash cloth, rinse it and rinse the catheter 4 times
10- moving on to peri care
11- get the 3rd wash cloth and apply soap on the 4 leafs and clean the labia & skin folds going top to bottom
* make sure you are holding the catheter with your pinky*
12- grab the last wash cloth and rinse the same areas you cleaned
13- Pat dry the areas that you rinsed
14- put the patients gown down
15- make sure that the catheter isn’t folded or on the floor
16- throw dirty linen away
17- clean the basin, put the soap inside and put it away
18- remove the under pad that’s under the patient
19- check the catheter one last time
20-take off your gloves
21-remove privacy blanket
22-cover the patient with the bed sheet
23-ensure the call light
24- ask for magazines
25- ask the patient if they want the curtain open or closed
26- wash your hands
