Although / Even Though

Although and even though are used to introduce a contrast or an unexpected result. They are followed by a clause (subject + verb).

  • Although: This word introduces something that is surprising compared to the main clause.
  • Even though: This is a stronger form of “although.”
  • Examples:
    1. Although it was raining, they went for a walk.
    2. Even though she was tired, she finished her homework.

Aunque / A pesar de que

Aunque y a pesar de que se utilizan para introducir un contraste o un resultado inesperado. Van seguidos de una cláusula (sujeto + verbo).

  • Aunque: Esta palabra introduce algo que es sorprendente en comparación con la cláusula principal.
  • A pesar de que: Esta es una forma más fuerte de “aunque”.
  • Ejemplos:
    1. Aunque estaba lloviendo, salieron a pasear.
    2. A pesar de que estaba cansada, terminó su tarea.

Despite / In Spite Of

Despite and in spite of are used to show contrast as well, but they are followed by a noun, pronoun, or gerund (verb + -ing).

  • Despite: This word is used to indicate that something happened or is true, even though there was an obstacle or difficulty.
  • In spite of: This has the same meaning as “despite” and is interchangeable with it.
  • Examples:
    1. Despite the rain, they went for a walk.
    2. In spite of her tiredness, she finished her homework.

A Pesar De / A Pesar De

Despite y in spite of se utilizan para mostrar contraste también, pero van seguidos de un sustantivo, pronombre o gerundio (verbo + -ando / -iendo).

  • Despite: Esta palabra se usa para indicar que algo sucedió o es cierto, aunque hubo un obstáculo o dificultad.
  • In spite of: Tiene el mismo significado que “a pesar de” y es intercambiable con ella.
  • Ejemplos:
    1. A pesar de la lluvia, salieron a pasear.
    2. A pesar de su cansancio, terminó su tarea.
