What’s a skill
A learned action or behaviour with the intention of bringing about pre determined results with maximum certainty and minimum outlay of time and energy
Ability
Inherited from your parents. They are stable traits that determine an individuals potential to learn or acquire skill

Complex decision making Lots of decisions to be successful Taught after experienced master basic skills Takes considerable time to master Eg double back somersault

Unstable environment
Way you do skill is effected by people around you
Skill often externally paced
You may decide to do the skill differently based on the environment
Eg football pass
Closed skill
Stable environment
Way you do skill is not affected by people around you
Way you do skill is same every time no factors or people around you
Skills typically self paced
Eg javelin throw
Externally paced skill
Start of movement controlled by external factors
Speed pace or rate based on external factors
Eg sprint start
Gross skill
Involves big movements of the body
Involves use of large muscle groups
Movements tend to not rely on accuracy and precision
Eg sprinting

Involves small precise movements
Involves use of small muscle groups
Movements tend to involve precision, accuracy
