- more common in males, city dwellers

what are positive symptoms of SZ?
A
atypical symptoms experienced in addition to normal behaviour

examples of positive symptoms?
A
- hallucinations
- delusions

what are hallucinations?
A
- unsual sensory experience
- audiotory most common
- visual= seeing things not there
- can be olfactory (smell) or tactile (touch)
- related to environmental stimuli or random

what are delusions?
A
- paranoia
- strongly held false beliefs
- persit even when evidence against belief
- persecutory delusions-> believing others trying to harm them

what are negative symptoms?
A
- atypical symptoms that are disruption to normal emotions/behaviour.
- symptoms can be mistaken for depression

A
- flat effect-> reduced emotion
- avolition
- speech poverty

what is avolition?
A
- loss of motivation to carry out daily tasks
- sometimes called apathy
- Andreason-> 3 signs of it= poor hygiene, lack of energy, lack of persistence in work/ed

A
- reduction in amount and quality of speech
- can delay response in convo
- eg do you have any siblings? yes
