Q

Were the dynamics more subtle or prominent? What did composers use to make these changes?

A

There was a move to more subtle dynamics. Composers began to use crescendos (gradual increase in loudness) and diminuendos (decrease in loudness) rather than sudden changes in volume. This was partly due to the invention of the piano.
