Classical conditioning Flashcards
1
Q
Reflex
A
simple, unlearned response governed by the nervous system that occurs naturally in response to a stimulus
2
Q
Stimulus
A
any event that produces a response from an organism
3
Q
Response
A
a reaction by an organism to a stimulus
4
Q
Acquisition
A
- the overall process during which an organism learns to associate 2 events
- measured by the number of trials
- short time between 2 stimuli = more effective
5
Q
extinction
A
- the strength of the association between CS and CR may fade or disappear over time
- decrease in strength of a CR that occurs in response to the CS when the UCS is no longer presented
- CS becomes meaningless
6
Q
Spontaneous recovery
A
- extinction has occurred, rest period taking place
- CS is reinforced, CR appears again but weaker than when first conditioned
7
Q
Stimulus generalisation
A
- organism will respond be producing a CR to other stimuli that are similar to the CS
- greater similarity = greater generalisation
8
Q
stimulus discrimination
A
- organism only responds to the CS and no other similar stimuli
