Class Test 1.2: Types of blood vessels Flashcards
Have dad look up arteries, capillaries, and vein structure. Identify what is what from the structures.
Arteries are thick because of high blood pressure, veins are thin because of low blood pressure, and capillaries are 1 cell thick.
Explain the characteristics of arteries
Arteries don’t have valves to help the blood flow away from the heart (thicker than the veins because the flow of blood is faster and so there is a less likely chance of it coming back)
Explain the characteristics of veins
Veins have valves to help the blood flow in a direct line and not back (thinner than the arteries because the flow of blood is slower and so there is a more likely chance of it coming back)
Explain the characteristics of capillaries
Capillaries are the place of exchange between veins and arteries for blood and tissue.
Explain the functions of arteries.
Arteries bring oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of your body. (maybe more)
