Q

how are class III cavities prepared and restored?

A
  • LA
  • Dental dam
  • outline form- access caries from palatal where possible and leave lingual intact where possible
  • remove caries- adj then base
  • leave unsupported enamel- but bevel enamel margins for better retention
  • debride cavity
  • line if necessary
  • matrix strip
  • etch, prime, bond
  • matrix strip
  • place composite in increments- only touching one wall of cavity at a time
  • place last increment with matrix band over and cure (removes o2 better aesthetics)
  • polish
  • check occlusion and POI

Q

how are class II cavities prepped and treated with amalgam ?

A
  • LA
  • Dental dam
  • outline form - break enamel slither with excavator - more than 2mm clear contact pt
  • resistance
  • retention- if min= grooves if bigger- isthmus
  • remove caries- adj first then base
  • remove unsupported enamel
  • drbride cavity
  • place matrix band
  • pack amalgam
  • carve back to contour of tooth
  • check occlusion and POI

  • keep minimal
  • remove caries- adj then base
  • debridement
  • matrix band
