cavity prep Flashcards
§what is blacks classification system ?
class I- post occlusal and buccal pits
class II- post Interproximal
Class III- ant Interproximal
Class IV- ant incisal edge
class V- ant/post cervical margins
why is blacks cavity prep design not used anymore?
not conservative of tooth tissue
- does not include root caries or secondary caries
what are the steps in blacks cavity design- i.e amalgam?
- outline form
- resistance form
- retention form
- caries removal
- correction of enamel margins
- debridement
what is involved in outline form?
access caries with high speed
what is involved in resistance form?
cavity floor must be perpendicular to occlusal force direction
what is involved in retention form?
to retain material in cavity- using grooves, undercut, isthmus
what is involved in treating caries?
removal of caries from ADJ first then removal of caries from base of cavity
what is involved with correction of enamel margins?
bevel- anteriors to increase surface area for bonding (and post class V)
remove unsupported enamel- post- will fracture and leave deficient margins
what is involved in debridement of cavity?
flushing cavity with water to remove bacteria and debris then drying thoroughly
what is involved now with cavity prep?
outline form-remove caries- stop and think about design for adhesive material
