class II Flashcards
1
Q
Beta blockers (propranolol, sotalol acebutolol)
A
Action: inhibits phase IV; AV AP prolonged
Use: atrial or ventricular premature beats, PSVT, controls ventricular rate in AFIB and A flutter, Ischemia-related ventricular tachycardia, vent arrhythmia associated with re-entry circuits
Side effects: bronchoconstriction - avoid in Asthma; sudden withdrawal can lead to “rebound hypersensitivity”
notes: Primary areas affected = SA and AV nodes; decrease AV nodal conduction and automaticity; slight prolongation of AV node AP due to blocking symp effects on K+ channels
