School phobia

Bullying
Enuresis, encopresis
-encopresis: bowel movements or leak a small amount of stool in their underclothes or on themselves
-enuresis: diurnal or nocturnal (day or night peeing)
-genetic component
-supporting families
-management: behavioral and pharmacological
-meds: antidiuretic hormone at bedtime to prevent wetting bed
Constipation
-decrease in frequency of stool passage; formation of hard, dry stools; oozing of liquid stool past a collection of hard, dry stools
-usually functional cause (not rt physiological or anatomic abnormality)
-rare in infants
-occurs most in toddlers and preschoolers because they are learning to control body functions
-in school-aged children, usually rt activity, diet, and toileting habits/pattern
Constipation management
Dx:
-rule out sphincter or other abnormalities/diseases
-Xray the impaction
Dietary Management:
-increase fibre
-decrease constipating foods
-increase fluids
Regular bathroom routine
Pharmacologic management to evacuate stool
-avoid routine use of laxatives, stool softeners, and enemas
-behaviour management
Bullying
def: repetitive physical, verbal, or emotional abuse intended to harm or bother another who is perceived as being less physically or psychologically powerful than the aggressor
boys: usually more direct or physical acts
girls: usually more indirect acts (ex. spreading rumors, social exclusion)
bullies: often defiant, antisocial, impulsive, easily frustrated, likely to break school rules
Victims: increased risk for low self-esteem, anxiety, feelings of insecurity, poor academic performance, psychosomatic complaints (ex. feeling tense, tired, dizzy)
