Autoplastic
will to change how they interact with the environment.
Prevalence of BPD in first degree relatives
found an absolute risk of 14.1% in theirfirst-degree relatives, corresponding to a 3.9 times increased risk compared torelativesof non-affected individuals
Adrenal insufficiency
fatigue, loss of appetite, hallucinations (extremely rare), lightheadedness, low BP
OCD vs OCPD
OCPD is egosyntonic vs OCD is egodystonic
OCD: compulsions/ obsessions (intrusive thoughts) + impairment in functioning/ distress/ time consuming more than 1 hour per day, compulsions to neutralize anxiety, prevent something bad from happening
OCPD: pervasive maladaptive pattern of excessive perfectionism and rigid control
Défense mechanisms used in OCPD
intellectualization: reasoning is used to block confrontation with an unconscious conflict and its associated emotional stress. Case: tries to explain everything
isolation: The defense mechanism of isolation can lead a person to separate ideas or feelings from the rest of their thoughts. In distinguishing an emotion or impulse from others in this way, a person attempts to protect the ego from anxieties caused by a specific situation. Case: always says it’s fine, people are exagerating
displacement: Displacement occurs when a person represses affection, fear or impulses that they feel towards another person. Accepting that it is irrational or socially unacceptable to demonstrate such feelings, the psyche prevents them from being converted into actions. However, the feelings are instead displaced towards a person or animal whom it is acceptable to express such sentiments for. Case: doesn’t take ownership for things that he’s done
reaction formation: When the insatiable desires of the id conflict with the ego and super ego, a person may formulate a reaction to those impulses. Often, this action is the direct opposite to the demands of the original desire, and helps to counteract impulses which may be unacceptable to act out or fulfill.
Grandiosity bipolar vs NPD
Grandiosity may emerge as part of manic or hypomanic episodes but the association with mood change or functional impairments helps distinguish these episodes from narcissistic PD. Episodic vs persistent. BAD delusional quality
