Class 1 Drug Terms (CV) Flashcards
Sympathomimetic
Producing physiological effects characterisitic of SNS by stimulating sympathetic nerves
Positive inotropic
Strengthen heart contractions; increase CO
Cardiac afterload
Pressure in the heart neeeded to eject blood during contraction
Adrenergic
Substances such as adrenaline and noradrenaline act as a neurotransmitter
Cardio-selective beta blockers
Block beta-1 adrenergic receptors to decrease heart activity
Catecholamines
Aromatic amines including neurotransmitters such as adrenaline & dopamine
Positive chronotropes
Increase HR
Positive dromotropic
Increase conduction velocity
Non-selective beta blockers
Decrease arterial & venous pressure
Cardiac preload
Degree of ventricular stretch at the end of diastole
