- Receive
- Transmit
- Analyze
- Effector activity
2
Q
What are the four functions of a neuron?
A
-
Receive and Analyze
- Dendrites and soma (cell body)
-
Transmission
- Axon hillock
- Myelinated / unmyelinated axons
- Axon collaterals
-
Effector activity
- Axon terminals
3
Q
What are the four components of a neuron?
A
- input
- integrative (soma)
- conductile (axon)
- output (e.g. secretion, muscle, capillary, etc.)
4
Q
What are the four types of glial cells?
A
- astrocytes: provide support and buffer neuronal activity
- oligodendroglia & Schwann cells: myelin around axons
- microglia: remove dead or degenerating cells
- ependymal: line the ventricles of the brain
